“As they walked on the road, Jesus joined them … but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.”
This little section of the Gospel of Luke has always captured my imagination. I think to myself, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if Jesus showed up and explained the scriptures to me!” Just imagine not having to worry about if your doctrine was correct or if you are using the right translation.
Today I was identifying with the Emmaus pair because they were struggling with a situation where things didn’t go the way they thought they would. I don’t know about you but a lot of times I have problems in life where things have not gone the way I thought they should have. I have spent time trying to understand what went wrong and how I might be able to fix it. I have often times tried to make some sort of Red Green duct tape adaptation to the situation in order to try and make it okay. This story helps me see that there is a different way to approach my disappointments… go for a walk and listen to Jesus. I know that might be oversimplifying things, but I am just trying to convey the idea of getting to spots in life where we can be open to hearing a different interpretation of what has happened in our life. To hear and know God’s voice and respond to it.
