There are many things to do on a long weekend, especially around Easter. Included here are some of the best opportunities you will have to engage with the wonder of the Passion weekend. If you would like to volunteer to help out in some way please let us know in the office.
Tenebrae, or “Service of Shadows” is one of the oldest traditions of the Christian church for the commemoration of the passion and death of Christ. As the Passion story unfolds through the readings and music, the darkness increases, until with the death of Jesus only one light is left burning. This is not necessarily a cheerful service, as it is an entering into the story of our Lord Christ on the night he was betrayed. It helps us appreciate more gloriously the explosion of light that is Easter. This service will take place Thursday evening at 7:00pm. It is a very participatory event and we are in need of about nine readers. Please contact Pastor Kevin if you are able to help out.
Good Friday Service at Knox
Our annual service with Knox Presbyterian church will happen at Knox this year at 11:00am. (Northwest Corner of 3rd St. and Victoria Ave.)
Good Friday Stations of the Cross
This Good Friday we will be holding a special event to help our children understand and commemorate Easter. At the Stations of the Cross we will use our senses, creativity and our imagination to reflect upon Jesus and remember what he did for each of us. Each station will have a different activity to help us understand Christ's love and sacrifice for us. As a family you will take time at each station together. The church will be open from 3:00 to 5:00 pm for families to come and participate. It will take your family roughly 45 mins to complete and all ages are welcome.
Natasha Ewaskow also needs volunteers to help set up, help with stations and clean up. If you can help please contact her.
Easter Morning Breakfast
This year we will be hosting an Easter pancake breakfast prior to church. Bring the whole family down between 9am and 10am for some delicious pancakes (even gluten free). It will be a great way to begin the celebration of Easter with friends and family.
Resurrection Celebration Service
We will of course be rejoicing with great hallelujahs on Easter morning during our regular timed service. (10:30am in case you were wondering)
