Annual Ministry Reports from 2016

FBCC Elders Report – October 2017

It has been a while since the last Elder’s report!  The Elders were active through the summer (at least a little bit active!), with such items as helping support pulpit supply and service coordination for some Sundays, taking some focused time for prayer for the FBCC family and ministries, membership interviews, and planning/discussion for opportunities such as The Story.  Each Elder liaisons with a ministry lead each month to help with communicating updates more broadly and providing timely support, feedback and prayer.
We are excited to welcome Alyssa Quick aboard and greatly value the voice, perspective and experience she brings to the Team.  We all continue to hold up Phil Abbott, and Jeannette, Jim and family as they support and journey with Phil.
The FBCC Elders were privileged to join with the staff for a retreat October 13-15 in Invermere.  Thank you, FBCC, for this opportunity and your support!  It was a meaningful gathering.  The weekend started with a group Lectio Divina (reading, meditation, prayer and contemplation) focused on Revelation 4:1-11.  We had been reading ‘Leading with a Limp’ by Dan Allender over the last couple months.  The book focuses on the counter-intuitive power in leadership that can arise from brokenness and weakness.  We had two sessions looking at humility as the portal to courage, and the role of discernment in leadership.  We spent an evening in prayer for the FBCC community, our members and ministries.
We are prayerful and hope engaging with ‘The Story’ this year will be meaningful in connecting ‘our story’ with ‘God’s story’.  We are prayerful it is helpful for families and small groups to engage the bible story together and that it is an accessible way to improve our bible literacy.
We look forward to the Fall Congregational meeting on Tuesday, November 28 with the budget vote being a key agenda item.  A budget planning meeting will be held from 7 – 8 pm on Thursday, October 26, where a preliminary draft of the budget will be presented and discussed.  The planning meeting and the days leading up to the Congregational November 28 meeting is an opportunity to meaningfully engage and provide input to the budget and its formation.
We are very thankful and prayerful for the Space Project committee as they have been, and currently are, very active in meetings, cost estimations, and planning associated with the Space Project.
In Acts 15 (verse 28), the early church leaders shed light onto their thinking and decision process, stating ‘…it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us….’.  As pilgrims on The Way, may we all hold this tension well as we think, discuss, journey and stay in step with the Spirit.
